Weekly Blog

This week was the first time we were introduced to the assignment brief and our overall project. At first, I was unsure on what I wanted to do. This was due to my lack of preparation. However, I looked on ArtStation to get a few rough ideas. This then lead to a list with my top five ideas. I narrowed this down to three, those being; a Subway Tunnel, Subway Station and an Abandoned station bathroom.

The one that appealed to me the most was definetly the Subway Tunnel. This was mainly due to the styles i could create. As well as the large amount of backstory that i could create. 

​

Now I was set on my project, I proceeded to create a mindmap, gathering all of my ideas. This helped and i now have everything planned out and ready. 

​

I also had to complete a SWOT analysis along with a proposal form. At first, i struggled with identifying things that i do very well, for this i turned to my peers for help and was able to get it completed. The proposal form was easy to fill in, i was able to stick to the approxomate word count and use the correct amount of detail.

Week Beginning 07/03

As mentioned above, this was the first week of out final project. The first area we were to focus on was setting up our new wix blogs. We had to go through everything that needed to be included. In addition to this, we were advised to make a mindmap of our initial ideas. I did this, however lost the mindmap until the coming weeks.

Week Beginning 14/03

My main focus for this week was creating a project pitch ready to present to our lecturer and other class members. The purpose of this being to inform everyone on what we want to do and how we plan to do it. This gave our lecturer a chance to assess if they thought we would be able to complete everything to a good standard within the given time. This took up the majority of the weeks time. We also spend time on our swat analysis as well as the project proposal form. 

Week Beginning 21/03

This was the day we had to pitch our game idea. I was one of the few given the afternoon to present, this allowed me to have some extra time to finalise everything. I was given a good amount of feedback. In the later weeks, I would use this feedback to refine my ideas. This feedback included: How would I improve my texturing. What existing products are there? What narrative could I use?

Week Beginning 28/03

This week was very simple. Our lecturer wasn't in college, so everyone carried on with research that we had assigne dourselves to do. 

Week Beginning 4/04

This is the last week before the Easter break, due to this I spent time finishing off some areas that I hadn't completed. I also started some of the pre-production phase, this included the level design I made using dungeon scrawl. I then used photoshop to add a key to this. I also made a rough idea of what I wanted to complete over Easter.

Mid Project Evaluation

This week marked the mid point in our project. I have made a strong start, having completed the secondary research portion of my research tasks. Entering the last few weeks of the project, I will need to refine my primary research and ensure this is completed to the best level. Context has also been heavily focused on and completed to a standard I am happy with. The production stage hasn't yet comensed for me, although I will make s bit of progress with this over Easter. It won't effect me too much since there isn't a lot it do in the area of preproduction.

Something that needs to be improved is my time managment. I tend to get stuck on one part for too long, this leads to falling behind. Hopefully this wont hinder me once the full production stage has started.

Week Beginning 25/04

We are now back from college and fully focussing on our projects. This week I decided it was necessary to go back over and finish my context and research to add more of the missing primary research, this came in the form of an unreal subway environment that I was lucky enough to have access to. After I finished this off I continued to start my pre-production. My plan for the next week is to work hard on the production and finishing the Pre-Production. This shouldn't take too long so I will still have enough time for everything else. 

Week Beginning 02/05

Due to the bank holiday we only have 1 and a half days in college this week, I am going to start on the Pre-production, just finishing a few areas that need more attention.

Now this week has ended, I have acomplished everything I wanted to. The research has finally been completed, along with the pre-production. All is left is to make all of my assets and complete my evealuation. Once this is done, my project will be finished.

Week Beginning 09/05

This was a very productive week. I got a lot of important work done regarding asset creation. I created my first asset in the form of an electrical box. I was very happy with how it turned out. The model could have had some slight improvements made however this wasn't anything major. I also created a few different parts of my tunnel. These came in the form of modualr assets, a massive timesaver for this project. As well as that I updated my blog along the way.

Week Beginning 16/05

I have finally reached the penultimate week of my project. All of my models are complete and I just have to finish off some of my write up for this portion of work. I still need to texture as many assets as I can before the deadline. Whilst doing this, I will be continuing to go over my previous work to ensure it is to a good quality.

Week Beginning 23/05

This is my final week working on my FMP, it has taken a while to reach this point but I am happy with the work I have produced. Throughout this project I have been able to enhance my skills using both maya and the Unreal Engine. As well as adding the final touches to my scene I will be evaluating my work.
